Children who lived, stayed, or visited at public housing in New Orleans before Feb. 17, 2001, might qualify for settlement benefits.
Settlements have been proposed in a class action lawsuit about whether children were injured by lead at Housing Authority of New Orleans (HANO) public housing developments. A settlement with HANO proposes a further $1,750,000 plus 200 Housing Choice Voucher Program vouchers, which are commonly called Section 8 housing vouchers, on top of the roughly $65 million that settlements with insurance companies described in a notice this past summer. If you are included, you may object to the HANO settlement by December 7, 2011, or ask to speak in Court about the fairness of the settlements at a hearing to be held by the Orleans Parish Civil District Court in Louisiana on December 21, 2011.
